Academic Writing demands a rather formal style of writing. However, one must not forget the importance of imagery, if appropriate, and a subject specific tone. It is neither appropriate nor interesting to read an Architecture essay that has been written as a Science essay nor is the opposite suitable. In the coming weeks, I will approach the subject of style for academic texts, the importance of creating an informative, yet captivating narrative and the matter of substantiating your information.

It is interesting to stand back and look at the greater picture and reflect upon one’s work. So far, I am nearing the end of my “great work” which you do not know the title of, and yes, there is a title.

Standing back, I see the plot-lines maturing and others still seeking that magic twist. Some ideas have not even blossomed yet, but overall this roller-coaster of ideas has a direction, no matter how contorted the road.

So, now that it is summer and I have more time on my hands, I have began to look at the shape of my work, and see themes of loss and condolence running alongside the theme of hope and expectation.

However, what makes my work all the more interesting to me, when I look at its long course, I notice that the beginning is much more unfinished than the later part. Thus I look at what I have written and see a great opportunity, and what I make of the time I find this summer is just one of the journeys of writing.

It all started with the drawing of a map of where the characters live. Well, the map is supposed to be drawn by a character. Any ways, it is amazing how such a simple start – the map – leads to a whole new mini-world being created. Now the character’s background can be explored more fully and realized by visiting their home rather than a flashback or dialogue of the past.

It is refreshing to revisit you work after standing away from it, and getting to know what you have written. Of course, in my break ideas still popped up and I wrote them on paper. Now it’s back to the keyboard.
